The days of using wires to connect controllers to video games consoles -- including the Sony PlayStation 3 -- have passed, and wireless is the preferred and default technology. Wireless controllers let you play without being physically limited to the console's area, and they eliminate the hassle of tripping over or untangling wires. When you first use a controller on your PlayStation 3, you need to sync it to the device.

     Use the USB charging cable to charge each PS3 controller completely, for maximum battery life while playing.

     Use a paperclip to press the "Reset" button on the back of the controller.

     Turn on the PlayStation 3 console.

     Unplug the controller from the charging cable, and press the "PlayStation" button in between the "Start" and "Select" buttons. This syncs the controller to the system. Repeat for each controller.
