How to Synchronize a Fat PS3 Controller to a Slim PS3

Sony's PlayStation 3 video game console was released in late 2006. Over the years, a number of different hard drive configurations were released, though keeping the same form factor. In late 2010, Sony released the PS3 Slim. The Slim provides the same functionality in a console, but is roughly 35% smaller and lighter than the original ("fat") models. The PS3 Slim uses the same Dual Shock 3 controller as the older PS3 models, which sync to the system via Bluetooth. As such, pairing the controller to the PS3 Slim is just the same as pairing it to the original console.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the included USB cable into the back of the PS3 controller. Plug the free end into the USB port on the PS3 slim.

    • 2

Press the "PS" PlayStation button in the center of the PS3 controller. The controller will flash a red light for a few seconds.

    • 3

Disconnect the USB cable from the controller and PS3 slim when the red light remains stable. The PS3 controller now is paired with the PS3 slim.
