How to Change the Input Selector to HDMI With a PS3 HDMI Cable

The PlayStation 3 console is a multimedia device that allows players to video chat online, stream video, share photographs with friends and play video games. If you have a high-definition display receiver, you can hook a PS3 HDMI cable to your display source to get a crisp, clean image. To change the input selector to HDMI, you will need to change a few settings in the PS3 console.

      Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the back of your PS3 console. Attach the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI port on your receiving device, such as a television, computer monitor or projector.

      Power on your PS3 console and scroll to "Settings" icon on the far-left of the XMB menu.

      Scroll down and highlight the "Display Settings" option. Press the "X" button on your PS3 controller to select the option.

      Highlight the "Video Output Settings" option and press the "X" button on your PS3 controller. Select "HDMI" from the list of connector types and select the setting method as "Automatic." Press the "X" button to continue.

      View the image on your receiving source. If you are able to view the high-definition image produced by the HDMI cable and your PS3 console, press the "Yes" option to apply the input selector setting as HDMI.
