To build your skills in first-person shooting games, you need to practice. While playing in a public lobby builds skills, it also pits you against players of varying skill level, some of whom are much more skilled than you, making it difficult to learn new techniques and strategies. In "Battlefield: Bad Company 2," you can create a private lobby to have a match with people you specifically invite to the room so that you can play with people you know in order to improve your skills.
