How to Charge My PS3 Controller Without Having My PS3 Turned On

Unlike previous PlayStation gaming systems, PlayStation 3 comes with wireless controllers that can run up to 20 hours when fully charged. This allows you to play games in any part of the room. Although you can charge your PS controller with your gaming system, you can also charge it using a computer or an electrical outlet if you don't want to turn on the game console.

Instructions

Using a PC

  Connect the smaller end of the Mini-B 5-Pin USB cable into the USB port on your controller, and then connect the larger end into an open USB port on your computer. The lights on your controller start to flash. This indicates that it's charging.

  Leave the controller to fully charge. When the lights stop flashing, disconnect your controller from your computer.

  Turn on your gaming console and TV, and then press and hold the PS button your controller for more than a second to view the battery power status.
Using PS3 AC Adapter

  Connect one end of the USB cable that comes with the AC Adapter into the USB port on your controller, and then connect the other end to the adapter itself.

  Connect the AC chord to the power port on the adapter, and then connect it to an electrical outlet. The lights on the controller start to flash. This indicates that it's charging.

  Leave the controller to fully charge. When the lights stop flashing, disconnect the controller from the computer.

  Turn on your gaming console and TV, and then press and hold the PS button on the controller for more than one second to view the battery power status.
