How to Connect Your PS3 to a Wired Cable Modem

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) game console features an integrated wireless network adapter and Ethernet connection port, which allows the system to connect to a broadband Internet source, such as a cable modem supplied by your Internet service provider (ISP.) It may prove necessary to connect your PS3 console directly to your cable modem when not using a router to connect multiple network devices.

      Turn off the cable modem, followed by the PS3.

      Connect the Ethernet cable to the corresponding "Ethernet" port found at the rear of the game console.

      Connect the remaining end of the Ethernet cable to the appropriate Ethernet port located on the rear of the cable modem.

      Turn on the cable modem, followed by the PS3.

      Navigate to the "Settings" menu on the PS3. Scroll down to "Network Settings" and press the "X" button on the controller.

      Highlight "Internet Connection settings" and press the "X" button to continue. Choose the "Wired Connection" option and press the "Right" D-pad button.

      Highlight "Easy" and hit the "Right" D-pad button to finalize the configuration settings. Exit the settings menu to complete the process.
