Unplug the PS3's power cord from the outlet and let the LED lights dim before continuing. Pull out the HDMI plug from the back of the PS3. Blow off the pins on the plug and the socket it came out of with bursts of compressed air. Insert the HDMI plug back into the socket. Plug the power cord in. Press the pressure switch on the front right of the PS3 to turn it on.
Press the rocker switch on the back panel of the PS3 to turn it off. Wait 3 minutes before continuing. Press the rocker switch again to return the PS3 to standby mode. Press on the pressure-sensitive power switch on the right side of the front ledge. Continue to press the switch for 10 to 12 seconds before removing your finger. Let the PS3 shut itself off. Let 3 minutes go by. Press the pressure-sensitive switch until a beep is heard. Remove your finger from the switch.
Press down on the rocker switch on the PS3's back to turn it off. Moisten a cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol. Run the moistened swab inside the vent on the side, along each slat to remove loose dust and other contaminants. Dispose of the swab in the trash when done. Wipe the front of the vent with a soft cloth. Blow off the vent with a burst of compressed air. Return the rocker switch to its "On" position.
