How to Create a Gamertag for PS3

While initially associated with the Xbox and Xbox Live, the term "gamertag" has become synonymous with an online gaming user name. In the world of PlayStation 3, this user name is specifically a PlayStation Network (PSN) Online ID. Your gamertag designates you as a specific player on multiplayer games, so you can identify yourself to PSN friends. Creating a gamertag is simple and can be done directly on the PlayStation 3 console.

  Navigate to the "PlayStation Network" menu, and select "Sign up for PlayStation Network."

  Select "Create a New Account." Click "Continue." Select your language, country and birth date.

  Click "Accept" after reading the license agreement.

  Enter your email address, then enter a password for your account. Enter a security question and answer. This will be used if you forget your password and are unable to log in to your account.

  Enter the desired gamertag into the "Online ID" field.

  Enter your personal information, including full name and street address, into the appropriate fields. Click "Confirm" to create the account. You have the option of setting an avatar for your Online ID, if desired.
