The PlayStation 3 is a video game and entertainment console from Sony. If you are planning to sell the console, purchased a used console or installed a new hard drive, you may find it necessary to format the system. Formatting the PS3 will erase the hard disk, removing all personal data. Once complete, the PS3 software will be like-new. If you have any game saves or downloaded media you wish to save, you must back it up to a memory card or other external storage device.
