My PS3 Overheats Fast

A PlayStation 3 gaming console that is overheating will likely damage the device's motherboard, so it's important to make sure your device functions properly. Your system is likely to overheat quickly if you've been playing it for hours nonstop, have objects blocking proper airflow, or if it's in an improperly ventilated area. The more your system overheats, the greater the chances of it dying prematurely. With a few troubleshooting steps and guidelines, you can resolve common overheating problems.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Power" button to turn off your PS3 if the power indicator flashes alternately in red and green. This usually happens when your system is overheating.

    • 2

Let your gaming console to cool down. If you had been playing it for hours nonstop, leave it to cool down for a few hours.

    • 3

Remove your gaming console from hot areas because this causes the interior to warm up. If your gaming console is in a closed cabinet, or other location that heats up quickly, remove it.

    • 4

Remove objects from the ventilation openings. Objects around the ventilation openings may prevent sufficient airflow and cause your system to overheat.
