How to Remove a PS3 Fat Cover

The Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) video game console was originally released in 2006. The latest model of the console, the "PS3 Slim," is much lighter and more streamlined than the original unit.The original model is referred to as the "PS3 Fat." This larger console is housed in a bulkier case with a sleek finish. Cleaning or repairing the individual components of the PS3 requires the removal of several screws and the top cover.

• T10 security screwdriver
• Phillips head screwdriver

     Remove the rubber screw cover from the left side of the PlayStation 3 console. Remove the security screw located under the screw cover.

     Slide the cover plate to the left and lift it away from the console.

   • 3

     Remove the seven Phillips head screws from the top cover.

   • 4

     Grab the back side of the top cover and lift it up, pushing the front side of the cover downward. Pull the top over forward to remove it from the console.
