How to Get .Avi to Work on a PS3

The Sony PlayStation 3 game console can do more than just play video games. It has a built-in hard drive that supports a range of audio, picture, video and game files, which can be stored for playback. An AVI file is a video file, and in order to use this file type on the console, you must access it within the "Video" menu. This can be accessed while on a USB key, as well as when copied to the device.

  Insert a USB key into a free USB port on the computer. Click "Open Folder to View Files" to access the USB content. Click and drag the AVI file into this folder to copy it.

  Remove the USB key from your computer and connect to a free USB port on the front of the PS3 console.

  Press the PS button to turn on the console and scroll across to the "Video" menu. Scroll down to "USB Device" and press triangle to open the options menu.

  Select "Display All" to display the contents of the USB key. Scroll down to your AVI file and press X to begin playback. Alternatively, press triangle and select "Copy" to copy the file to your console. Once this is complete, press the circle to return to the "Video" menu, scroll down to the copied file and press X to begin playback.
