How to Get a PS3 BBC iPlayer to Work in the USA

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) is Sony Computer Entertainment's third iteration of the PlayStation video game console. It features a Blu-Ray movie player, online video streaming, a web browser and the ability to install downloaded applications. One such application is the BBC iPlayer. The iPlayer is a service offered by the British Broadcasting Service to replay content that is aired on the BCC series of television channels. Unfortunately, by default the iPlayer application only works from UK-based IP addresses.

Instructions

    • 1

Check a free proxy list to find a proxy that is based in the United Kingdom (see Resources). Ensure that the proxy has a good speed and connection time. Both of these values are given on the proxy list.

    • 2

Navigate to "Settings" and then "Network Settings" from the PS3 main menu.

    • 3

Choose "Internet Connection Settings" and then "Custom."

    • 4

Choose a wired or wireless connection and then enter the authentication settings when prompted.

    • 5

Choose "Automatic" or "Do not use" for all of the settings until prompted for "Proxy Server." Select "Use."

    • 6

Enter the proxy address from Step 1 into the box. Finish the network connection settings. The iPlayer application will now recognize the PS3 as being within the UK.
