The PlayStation 3 uses wireless controllers to control every aspect of the console, whether you want to navigate the system's menu or play with your friends in multi-player games. Each controller has its own power source that constantly drains when it is in use. If you choose to leave the room for a few minutes, or perhaps need to turn one controller off because it stops being used, there is an option to deactivate the controller on the PS3 menu. This is the only way to turn it off as there is not a power button on the controller.

Hold down the "PS" button in the center of the controller.

Scroll down to the "Turn Off the Controller" option.

Press the "X" button and your controller will deactivate.
