How to Get a Mod List on a PS3

A "softmod" is any hacker-community technique that alters the operating system of a gaming console such as the Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) so it will work with unauthorized applications and games. A softmodded PS3 will work with both PC games and games from other systems like the Xbox. Customarily, a "mod list," or list of available modifications, appears in the main menu of a softmodded PS3 system, so obtaining the mod list is straightforward.

Memory card reader with USB cable

Instructions

  Download the Homebrew Channel application onto your computer.

  Insert the first PS3 memory card into the memory card reader, and then plug the cable from the card reader into an available USB port. A folder for the memory card will automatically appear on your computer desktop.

  Drag and drop the Homebrew application file into the PS3 card folder, then remove the memory card from the reader.

  Insert the PS3 memory card into the memory card slot on your PS3 gaming system console, and then press the "Power" button to turn the system on. The Homebrew application will automatically start up and install itself onto your PS3 system.

  Select any one of the Installer options on the main Homebrew Channel application home screen to get a mod list of available applications and games. The mod list will appear on the next screen.
