How Do You Make the Earpiece Work on a PS3?

The official PlayStation 3 (PS3) Bluetooth headset and most cell phone Bluetooth headsets can be used to communicate with other PS3 users in games or any application that supports voice chat. Like other wireless devices, Bluetooth headsets must be paired with the PS3 before they can be used. Only one Bluetooth headset can be paired with a PS3 at a time. Voice quality varies depending on the Bluetooth headset. Unlike wired headsets, Bluetooth headsets are susceptible to interference, but enjoy the convenience of being able to move around freely.

Instructions

  1. Pair Official Headset

    • 1

Press the "Power" button to turn the PS3 on.

    • 2

Connect the headset to the mini-b side of the supplied USB (Universal Serial Bus) cable. Connect the opposite side of the USB cable to either USB port on the front of the PS3.

    • 3

Wait for the light on the headset to turn green and disconnect the headset from the USB cable. Skip to Section 3 to configure the headset.

    Pair Unofficial Headset

    • 4

Press the "Power" button on the PS3. Select the "Settings" icon on the PS3 main menu. Select "Accessory Settings."

    • 5

Select "Manage Bluetooth Devices." Select "Yes" when prompted to pair a new Bluetooth device. Select "Register New Device." Set the headset to its pairing mode. Most Bluetooth headsets have a physical button on the device specifically for pairing.

    • 6

Select "Start Scanning" on the PS3. Select the name of your Bluetooth headset. Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the headset's pass key. By default, this is 0000. Select "OK." The pairing is complete, but the headset must be configured before it can be used.

    Configure Headset

    • 7

Select "Settings" from the PS3 main menu. Select "Accessory Settings." Select "Audio Device Settings."

    • 8

Select "Input Device." Select the name of your Bluetooth headset.

    • 9

Speak into the headset to test the microphone (outgoing) volume. To adjust the volume, select "Microphone Level" and press the "X" button until you have the desired volume. Press "OK."
