The PlayStation 3 is a video game console that has its own online multiplayer platforms and servers. The network is known as the "PlayStation Network" and is free for all owners of a PS3 video game system. This network connects video game players from all over the world to play their favorite video games together. One of the biggest issues gamers encounter when playing others online is lag. Lag is when one person's connection runs slow and causes the gameplay to stall, stick or skip. Lag can be frustrating when in the middle of an intense game, but there are a few things you can do to cut down on lag.

  Use an Ethernet cable rather than a wireless network for Internet access. An Ethernet cable will provide a stronger Internet signal to your PS3 than a wireless router. Wireless networks can go in and out and are vulnerable to signal interference.

  Place the wireless router of your wireless network within close proximity to your PS3 system. Putting the router close to the system will strengthen your signal and help reduce lag due to dropped connection or signal weakness.

  Do not use the Internet on other devices while playing your PS3. If other individuals in your home are using the computer or downloading files it can cause the Internet connection to slow down and cause lag to occur.
