How to Change a PS3 Theme From a USB

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) is a multimedia device developed by electronics manufacturer Sony. In addition to playing games designed for the PS3, it is also capable of downloading music. You can watch DVD and Blu-ray movies, and use a full Internet Web browser in addition to many other functions. The system startup screen, called the "Xross Media Bar" (XMB) is how you access all of the system's capabilities. You can customize the XMB with a countless array of "themes" designed to give a unique look to your PS3 interface. You can even download PS3 themes to your computer and transfer them to the PS3 through a USB drive.

  Create a folder titled "PS3" on your USB device. Attach a USB thumb drive or external hard drive to your computer and create a folder named "PS3" on it. Inside this folder, create another folder titled "THEME" using all caps.

  Download PS3 themes to your computer from a website that has PS3 themes. Sites like "PlayStation Universe," "PS3 Themes" and "All PS3 Themes" have a variety of themes available for download. Save the downloaded file to the "THEME" folder on your USB device.

  Install the USB device into the PS3. Use one of the USB ports located in the lower left hand corner on the front of the PS3. The PS3 can be on when this is inserted.

  Scroll down to the "Theme Settings" menu. On the XMB, scroll over to the "Settings" icon and then scroll down to the "Theme Settings" option. On the Theme Settings menu, click on "Theme".

  Install the new PS3 themes from your USB device. On this sub menu, scroll up to the option "Install" and click on it. Select the USB device as the source. It will do a scan of the device and ask you to verify the themes that it has found to install. Click on "Yes" to install the themes.

  Select a theme to make active on your XMB. Once they are all installed, you can access them by scrolling over to the "Settings" icon on the XMB and scrolling down to the "Theme Settings" option. Click on this and then select "Themes" to find the full list of themes available. Select one and press the "X" button to make it the active theme.
