How to Hook Up a PS3 to a Dish

Hooking up a PlayStation 3 console to your dish requires connecting it to the dish's receiver. A satellite receiver is a DVR unit that has optional inputs. Use these inputs to transfer the signal from the PS3 without having to connect another input to the television. First, determine which type of video cable to use with the two devices.

      Examine the rear of your DirecTV receiver to see the available video ports. You will have a composite video connection that uses red, green and blue video ports and possibly an HDMI connection.

      Connect one end of the composite video cable or HDMI cable to the "Video" port on the PlayStation 3 console.

      Connect the other end of the composite video cable or HDMI cable to the "Video In" port on the back of the "DirecTV" receiver.

      Press the "Power" button to turn on the television and the PlayStation console. Press the "Input" button on the television remote until you see a picture on the screen.
