How to Install the Laser Lens Back on the Bracket to My PS3

If you're in the middle of replacing your PlayStation 3's Blu-Ray laser lens, you may be wondering how to reinstall the laser onto its metal bracket within the optical disc drive. The laser lens assembly sits on two metal rods, one of which is a fixed rod and the other detachable. Both rods attach to the bracket, upon which the laser assembly slides back and forth during operation. Reattaching the laser lens onto the bracket is a relatively straightforward task, but the delicacy of the laser lens combined with the number of small parts involved makes the task a lengthy one to undertake.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure the rectangular metal bracket is installed inside of the optical drive's plastic cradle. Expel any dust or debris from the cradle with compressed air.

    • 2

Attach the "L" shaped metal bumper onto the laser lens assembly. Insert the retaining screw into the bumper and tighten it with a Phillips-head jeweler's screwdriver.

    • 3

Attach the plastic slider bracket onto the side of the laser lens assembly. Tighten the screw used to secure the bracket with the screwdriver.

    • 4

Attach the free metal railing rod onto the laser lens assembly. Slide the rod through the two metal retention hoops on the assembly.

    • 5

Hook the other side of the laser lens assembly onto the fixed metal railing rod on the lens bracket. Lower the rest of the assembly into place within the bracket.

    • 6

Attach the two railing retention brackets onto the free metal railing rod. Tighten the screws used to secure the brackets with the jeweler's screwdriver.

    • 7

Insert the white ribbon cable into the connector on the laser lens. Close the small metal clamp over the cable to hold it in place. Lower the black plastic cover over the optical drive cradle and tighten the screws used to secure it with the screwdriver.
