How to Install a Webcam on PS3

The PlayStation 3 features many ways to keep in touch with friends. Private messages, chat rooms and video chat allow you to interact with friends and fellow gamers through your console. Attaching a keyboard, microphone and webcam to your PlayStation 3 essentially transforms your console into a personal gaming computer. Installing a webcam for video chat use is a simple process, after which you can chat face to face with your PS3 friends.

  Connect the cord of any USB webcam to the USB port located on the front of your console. If the camera has an indicator light, it should light up once you securely connect the camera to the PS3.

  Start a video chat by scrolling to the "Friends" tab on the Xross Media Bar. Select the "Start a New Chat" option to enter the chat room.

  Use the "Invite a Friend" option to send a chat invitation. Once your friend accepts your request, the video chat session will initialize. You can invite up to six people into any chat session.
