How to Downgrade a PS3 to 3.41

The Sony PS3 can be downgraded to install custom firmware onto the console. but you need a USB flash drive and a PS3Break dongle to perform the process. Once downgraded, the PS3 is opened up to many new features. The PS3 firmware of choice for custom firmware is 3.41.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 lv2diag.self files
  • PS3Break
  • USB device
  • PS3UPDAT.PUP file

Instructions

    • 1

      Unplug the PS3 from the back to cut all power going into the PS3. Plug it right back in. Insert the PS3Break USB dongle into the PS3 USB port.

      Press the "Power" button on the front-right of the PS3 and immediately press the "Eject" button on the PS3 to put the PS3 into service mode. The PS3 will immediately turn off.

      Download the two "lv2diag.self" files and the "PS3UPDAT.PUP" file and save them onto a USB device. Plug this USB device into the USB port that is all the way on the right of the PS3.

      Turn the PS3 back on and the PS3 is downgraded to 3.41 automatically. Turn the PS3 off again. Plug the USB device back into your computer and delete the two files you placed on it previously. Save the second "lv2diag.self" onto the USB device.

      Insert the USB device back into the USB port on the right side of the PS3. Turn the PS3 back on and it will be taken out of service mode. The PS3 turns off again.

      Turn the PS3 on and the downgrade is complete.
