Instructions and Cheats for Batman on the PS3

Taking control of the Dark Knight in "Batman: Arkham Asylum" for the PlayStation 3 can be a daunting task. Batman has several combat moves and crime-solving tools at his disposal, so a working knowledge of his capabilities is necessary for success. There aren't any traditional code-entering cheats in the game, but there are a few techniques you can use to make your gameplay experience a bit less frustrating.
  1. Basic Controls

    • Use the left analog stick for Batman's directional movement and the right analog stick for camera control. Pause the game with the "Start" button. Use "Select" to bring up maps and menus. Change and choose gadgets with the D-pad. Aim the Batarang with "L1." To turn "Detective Mode" on and off, press "L2." Hold "L2" to scan. Use "R1" to grapple and "R2" to crouch. Pressing the "X" button will cause Batman to run, glide, use or climb. Double-tap "X" to evade. To strike, press "Square." Perform a silent take-down with "Triangle." Use "Circle" to drop down.

    Combat

    • Batman has three basic combat techniques: strike, counter and stun. Use "Square" to strike, "Triangle" to counter and "Circle" to stun. Striking enemies will deal the most damage, while countering is geared toward defense. Use the stun technique to temporarily disable an opponent, which will allow you to inflict damage with strikes.

    Predator Mode

    • Certain areas in the game will enable "Predator Mode," a stealth-oriented combat scenario that requires you to evade detection as you disable a group of gun-toting enemies. During "Predator Mode," Batman can move around silently by crouching with the "R2" button. When you encounter an enemy, use the "Triangle" and "Circle" buttons to perform a standard takedown or the "R2" and "Triangle" buttons to perform a ground takedown. When you're in "Predator Mode," be on the lookout for gargoyles in the area. Batman can grapple up to a gargoyle and survey his surroundings without being spotted by his enemies.

    Detective Mode

    • "Detective Mode" is a handy technique in Batman's arsenal. By using the x-ray capabilities of the "Detective Mode" display, you can see all of the opponents in the area and plan your strategy accordingly. Unarmed enemies will show up in blue, and enemies with weapons will be red. You will also see information on the enemies' weapons, heart rates and conditions. During "Detective Mode," pay close attention to the orange objects. This color signifies an important item that could be critical to the mission. Objects like gargoyles, vent covers, Riddler Trophies and Interview Tapes will show up in orange.

    Easy Titan Combos

    • When fighting a Titan along with a group of normal henchmen, stun the Titan and jump on his back. Use him to hit the other enemies and quickly increase your combo numbers.

    "Night Glider" Trophy Technique

    • Locate a wide-open area, such as Arkham West or East. Climb to the highest point and glide to the other side. A good spot for this technique is the clock tower on the Arkham Mansion in Arkham East. Glide to the northwest from here to acquire the trophy.

    "Mano-A-Mano" Trophy Technique

    • When fighting against a pair of Titan enemies, line them up so when one charges, the other gets trampled. Attack the trampled Titan to damage it further. Repeat the process until one of the Titans is defeated. Spray Explosive Gel on the floor, then lure the remaining Titan to it. Finish it off with melee attacks.

    Poison Ivy Plant Strategy

    • To defeat one of Poison Ivy's plants, you have to get in close enough to tear out its heart. You can accomplish this by finding a high point above the plant, such as a tower or building. Drop down directly beside the plant and attack.
