PS3 DLNA File Types

The PlayStation 3 gaming console allows users to stream videos and MP3s through DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) protocol. This allows people to house music, videos and pictures on a home server and access them through the PS3 without having to load the files onto the PS3 system. If you would like to steam files to your PS3, you will need to know which files are compatible with the console.
  1. Music

    • MP3 files are generally used for music files. MP3 files are compatible with the PS3 and can be accessed through the "Music" icon on the PS3's home screen.

    Video

    • AVI, MP4, TS, M2TS and MPEG are the files generally used for video streams on the PS3 gaming console. These can be accessed through the "Video" icon on the PS3's home screen.

    Pictures

    • JPG, PNG, GIF and TIFF are used for viewing pictures on the PS3. These can be accessed through the "Pictures" icon on the home screen.

    Folders

    • ZIP and RAR files are used as browsing folders on the PS3. This means that you can store all of your music files in a ZIP folder and view them on the PS3 home screen. This allows users to categorize their media.
