How Do I Change the HDMI Setting on My PS3 Back to the Regular Yellow, Red & White Cords?

In effort to support a variety of televisions and display devices, the PlayStation 3 provides consumers with multiple video output methods. If you take your PS3 to someone else's home, you may need to use a different output method than what you normally use. Unfortunately, you might forget to change the output setting back before leaving. If this is the case, you may find the PS3 no longer displays on your television. If your PS3 is currently configured for an HDMI connection and all you have is a composite-capable display, you can manually reset the PS3 video settings to restore analog output mode.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the main power switch on the back of the PS3, and disconnect the HDMI cable from the back of your PS3.

    • 2

Connect the red, white, and yellow composite cords from the PS3 to the corresponding colored composite jacks on your television.

    • 3

Turn on the main power switch on the back of the PS3. Turn on your television, and select the composite input.

    • 4

Press and continuously hold down the "Power" button on the front of the PS3. You should hear the first beep to confirm the unit is powering on. Continue to hold the button down for approximately 10 seconds or until you hear a second beep. Release the button once you have heard the second beep. This resets the PS3's video settings to composite. You should now be able to see the video on your television.
