How to Make a PS3 Wireless Controller Connect to a Receiver

The PlayStation 3 console uses wireless controllers that eliminate the need for cables when playing games or watching movies. The unit has a built-in wireless receiver that captures the controller's signal, allowing you to take the controller anywhere you want in a room. There are two ways to connect a PS3 controller to the wireless receiver. The automatic way is recommended if you are using the controller for the same console regularly. Use the manual method when you bring the controller to friends' houses frequently or use different consoles.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Automatic

    • 1

Power on the PlayStation 3 console.

    • 2

Connect the mini end of the USB cable to the mini USB port on the controller.

    • 3

Connect the other end of the USB cable to one of the USB ports on the front of the PS3 console.

    • 4

Wait a minute while the console syncs to the controller. A green light will flash on both the console and the controller. Disconnect the controller from the console when the light stabilizes. The console is now wirelessly synced to the controller.

    Manual

    • 5

Power on the console as normal.

    • 6

Connect the controller to the console using the mini-B USB cable. The mini part connects to the controller while the standard part connects to the console.

Press the "PS" logo button in the center of the controller. Green lights will flash on the console and the controller as it syncs. The syncing is complete when the light stabilizes, and you may disconnect the USB cable.
