How to Hatch an Egg in EyePet

"EyePet" is one of a limited number of games meant to be used exclusively with the Sony PlayStation Eye, released in 2007; the game was released in 2010. Every EyePet looks the same, like a cross between a cat and a monkey, but you can earn clothing and accessories to customize your pet by completing challenges. The game creates a virtual environment for your EyePet based on what the PlayStation camera sees. Before you can play with your EyePet, you have to hatch its egg during the tutorial portion of the game, where you learn how to effectively interact with your virtual pet. Controlling the game is tricky at first, because it requires you to physically interact with something that's not actually with you in the room.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand in front of your PlayStation camera and watch your television screen as you position yourself behind the EyePet egg. As you move in front of the camera, you will want to be standing so it looks like the egg is in front of you.

    • 2

Hold up the Magic Card, which came with the EyePet game, so that the camera can read it; hold the card upright. Allow the camera to process the information on the card.

    • 3

Wait for the card to transform into a machine that looks like a hair dryer; this is the egg heater, which you need to help incubate the egg and get it ready to hatch. As you move your Magic Card, the heater will move around the screen. Move the egg heater around the egg until the egg cracks. Put down the Magic Card.

    • 4

Watch the screen to position your hands on either side of the egg. If you notice the egg moving with your hands, you have positioned them correctly.

    • 5

Move your hands back and forth to rock and tap the egg. Notice that the cracks grow larger. If the egg doesn't change, move your hands more vigorously.

    • 6

Listen as you move the egg around. Eventually, the EyePet cries out, indicating that the egg is about to hatch. Give the egg a hard tap once you hear this noise to help break open the egg.
