Instructions
Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the five screws from the back of the PS3 controller. To avoid losing the small screws, place them in a small storage bag such as a Ziplock bag.
Place pressure on the clip that connects the back panel of the controller to the front panel. The clip is located at the bottom of the controller. Lift up the back panel and remove it from the controller.
Disconnect the battery from the circuit board.
Remove the two white battery clips located on the left and right sides of the circuit board.
Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the small screw that connects the circuit board to the front panel of the controller.
Lift up the left and right rumble motors located in the bottom corners of the controller. Lift gently to prevent the motors from detaching from the circuit board. Remove the circuit board from the controller.
Remove the black rubber pad in the middle of the controller. You will notice a large, oval indentation, which is used to cover the PS button on your controller.
Drill a hole in the indentation on the rubber pad. Make sure the hole is wide enough for the LED light. After drilling a hole, put the rubber pad in its original spot in the controller.
Disconnect the circuit board from the white, plastic bezel and place the circuit board in your workspace.
Peel the thin green ribbon from the back of the bezel.
Use wire cutters to cut the long, circular piece in the middle of the plastic bezel, and then drill a hole in that exact position. After you drill a hole, reconnect the ribbon to the bezel.
Re-attach the bezel to the front panel of the controller. The hole you drilled in the bezel should align with the hole in the rubber pad.
Use wire cutters to cut two pieces of electrical wire, each approximately three-to-four inches in length.
Solder the positive lead to the positive end on the LED, and then solder the negative lead to the negative end. Use a damp cloth to wipe any excess solder.
Push the LED through the hole on the bezel and place it in the PS button hole in the rubber pad.
Re-attach the circuit board and wrap the LED wires around the left side of the circuit board. You will notice a vertical row of four silver nodes in the bottom left corner of the circuit board.
Solder the positive end of the LED wire to the positive node on the circuit board, and then solder the negative end of the LED wire to the negative node.
Reconnect the battery to the circuit board and re-attach the battery clips to the left and right sides of the circuit board.
Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to re-attach the back panel of the controller.
