How to Add More Visual Player Effects on Your PS3

The PlayStation 3 entertainment console lets you listen to music through the Music section of its XrossMediaBar. When the console launched, it had two visualizers that translated the music into an on-screen image. Through firmware updates, however, Sony has added an additional visualizer to the console, bringing the total up to three. To add this third visualizer to your PS3 game console, you must update the console's firmware through the Settings section of the XMB.

  Turn on the PS3 system and scroll over to the Settings section of the XrossMediaBar.

  Highlight the "Network Settings" option and press the "X" button. Highlight the "Internet Connection" option and press the "X" button. Select the "Enabled" option.

  Highlight the "Internet Connection Settings" option and press the "X" button. Select the "Yes" option when prompted, followed by the "Easy" option.

  Select the "Wireless" option if you have a wireless network or the "Wired" option if you have a wired network connection.

  Select the "Scan" option if you selected the Wireless option, and select your wireless network from the list of detected networks. Then enter your password in the space provided, if necessary, and press the "X" button to save the connection settings.

  Connect your network's Ethernet cable to the PS3 if you selected the Wired option. Highlight the "System Update" option in the Settings section of the XMB and press the "X" button. Highlight the "Update via Internet" option and press the "X" button.

  Select "OK" when prompted to download and install the latest update and the visualizers that come with it.
