How to Make PlayStation 3 Games Smaller by Removing Languages

You can initially upload your disc-based games onto your PlayStation 3's hard drive. Whenever you play the game again, you can play the game from your hard drive without needing the disc. However, each file takes up space on your hard drive. To make game files smaller, you can remove unnecessary parts of the file, such as multiple language options, if you do not intend to use more than one language to play the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Scroll through the PlayStation 3 menu with the directional button on your controller to the "Network" menu. Push the "X" button on your controller at "Internet Browser" to access the PlayStation 3 Internet browser. Download the PlayStation 3 file manager installation file of your choice with your PlayStation 3 browser. You can also download the file with your computer and transfer the .exe file to your PlayStation 3 with a flash drive.

    • 2

Scroll to "Game" on your PlayStation 3 menu with the directional button on your PlayStation 3 controller. Locate the "Install Package Files" folder. Scroll down and press the "X" button to start up the installation. The program will install automatically and you can now access your file manager.

    • 3

Highlight "Game" on your PlayStation 3 menu. Scroll down the menu until you see the file manager on your PlayStation 3. The file manager will be named after whatever program you used. For example, if you used "multiMan," it will be named "multiMan." Push the "X" button on your controller to open the file manager.

    • 4

Scroll through the file in your file manager until you see the name of the game for which you want to delete languages. For example, if you want to delete the languages on "God of War 3," the name of the file will be "God of War 3."

    • 5

Scroll through the menu with the directional button on your controller. Select the "USDIR" folder with the "X" button to open it.

    • 6

Scroll through the listed files with the directional button. Find any file with ".PSCARC" at the end. These files will typically indicate what language files they carry, such as "SPANISH.PSCARC" and "GERMAN.PSCARC."

    • 7

Press the "X" button on the controller to click on the ".PSCARC" file you want to delete. Select "Delete." Press the "X" button again to confirm your decision.
