How to Fix a PS3 Not Taking a Disk

When your PlayStation 3 suddenly stops accepting game or music disks, the problem may be caused by a software or hardware issue. You can repair software problems yourself. However, if the problem is a result of a hardware issue, you should consult PlayStation customer service to prevent the chance that you will void your warranty. The customer service agent will help you get the device repaired, should it be necessary.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the rejected disk using a lint-free cleaning cloth. Do not use a paper towel, T-shirt or other materials, as they can scratch your disk.

    • 2

Insert a different type of disk. For example, if you are trying to insert a DVD movie into the drive, insert a game or a music disk to make sure that the drive still works. The disk itself may be corrupted if the PS3 won't accept it.

    • 3

Press "Game" and "Game Data Utility" from the PS3 home screen. Click the icon that represents the game you are trying to play. Click "Delete" to remove that game's data. The game data may cause the PS3 not to load the disk.

Restart the game system by pressing the "Power" button in the back of the console. Flip the switch again to power it back on. Insert the disk again.
