Click the Download button to start downloading the PS3Updat tool. Save the file to your computer and use WinRAR to extract the contents of the archive in a folder on your hard disk drive. A file named "PS3UPDAT.PUPjail" will appear. Delete the "jail" part of the name.
Plug the USB flash drive in one of the computer's USB ports and it will be recognized by Windows as an external storage device. Open Windows Explorer, go to the drive and back up all of its contents.
Delete the contents of the USB stick, right-click inside the white space, select "New" and click "Folder" to create a new folder. Name it "PS3." Double-click the PS3 folder to see its contents and create another folder, named "Update," inside it.
Copy the PS3UPDAT.PUP file to the new Update folder. Disconnect the USB flash drive from the computer.
Turn on the PS3 and plug in the USB stick. Go to Settings on the PlayStation and select "System Update" to start updating the console. Select the "Update via Storage Media" option to use the USB stick for the update.
Click "OK" in the window that alerts you that the console found Version 3.55-jb. Read and accept the conditions and select "Install Update" to start the update process. Your console is jailbroken during the update. Do not unplug the USB stick until the PS3 beeps four times and shuts down.
Start the PlayStation 3 from the console, not the controller. Install a third party application to test if it was properly jailbroken.
