How to Upgrade a SATA Docking Hard Drive Station to PS3

Sony's PlayStation 3 game console includes a built-in hard drive that allows the user to save game data, music, movies and photos directly on the system. If the storage space on drive proves to be insufficient, the storage capacity can be upgraded by connecting a USB storage device. One type of USB storage device that the PS3 system supports is a SATA hard-drive docking station. You can use a docking station to upgrade your PS3's hard drive just as you would any other USB storage device.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the adapter end of the SATA docking station's power cord into the power adapter port on the back of the device. Plug the other end of the power cord into an electrical outlet.

    • 2

Plug one end of the USB cable provided with the docking station into the USB port on the back of the device. Plug the other end of the USB cable into one of the USB ports on the front of the PS3 system.

    • 3

Insert the SATA hard drive into the docking station, making sure the connectors on the SATA hard drive line up with the connectors inside the docking station.

    • 4

Turn on the PS3 console and press the "Power" button on the back of the docking station to bring the device online. The SATA hard drive inserted into the docking station can now be used as an extension of the PlayStation 3's storage.
