How to Optimize the Size of a PS3 Game

Over time and much use, your PlayStation 3 hard drive will accumulate a large amount of extra files in the game save directories. If your PS3 has been acting up or performing slowly, it would be a good idea to go through and optimize the size of your PS3 games. Optimizing the size of your games will speed up menu access and game performance and can be accomplished with the PS3 Saved Data Utility.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your PS3 console and a controller and open up the ̶0;Game̶1; menu.

    • 2

Click on the ̶0;Saved Data Utility̶1; to open it and scroll down to the game you want to optimize the size of.

    • 3

Select each of the game saves and partial game saves that you don̵7;t need or use and press the triangle button on your controller. You will now be shown the details of the files (such as size and last date of access) and file management options.

    • 4

Select the ̶0;Delete̶1; option on the following screen to delete the unnecessary files from the game̵7;s installation folder. Repeat this procedure for any other games you want to optimize the size of. When you are done, you should notice that there is quite a bit more free space on your PS3 hard drive. Depending on how many games you decide to optimize, you should also notice that your games and menus should load and function a lot quicker and smoother.
