Connections
Check if the cables from the PS3 to the TV are properly connected. PS3 gaming consoles can be connected using a variety of cables, such as HDMI or S-Video, and the cables and the type of connections determine the picture and sound quality. Whether you're using high-definition or standard-definition cables, inspect the connections from the gaming console to the TV. The video cables must be connected to the video ports, and the audio cables must be connected to the audio ports. Refer to your gaming console's manual for cable-specific connection instructions.
Electrical Interferences
Electrical appliances such as fluorescent lamps and thermostats can cause humming sounds when you play your PS3. If such appliances are near the gaming console, they can also distort picture quality. Removing electrical appliances away from the gaming console may improve sound and picture quality.
Damaged Cables
If the cables you're using to connect your PS3 gaming console to the TV are damaged, you will hear humming sounds. Damaged cables, especially those with exposed wires, can also cause annoying feedback. Inspect the cables for wear and tear, and replace them if they are damaged. If you're only hearing humming sounds with one type of connection, connect the gaming console using a different connection type.
Tips
The PS3 gaming console may make noise if it's used in an improperly ventilated location that can cause heat buildup. Storing the console in a closed cabinet or on a raised carpet causes the device's temperature to rise, which forces the fan to spin faster. As the temperature continues to rise, the gaming console starts to make loud noises. If the device is heating up, move it to a properly ventilated area. To decrease the chances of premature damage, refer to your gaming console's manual for safety and maintenance information.
