How to Fix a Crashed PS3

One of the biggest annoyances for gamers using the PlayStation 3, or PS3, is unexpected system crashes. If your system experiences a crash, the files on your system are either missing or corrupt. To fix this problem, use the PS3's built-in System Restore function. When you perform a system restore, your custom configurations and saved games may be erased permanently, so back them up before proceeding.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn off your PlayStation 3.

    • 2

Hold down the "Power" button. The game system powers on and then powers off.

    • 3

Press the "Power" button again until you hear two beeps, then release the button.

    • 4

Plug in your controller via the USB outlet when prompted.

    • 5

Press the ̶0;PS̶1; button on the controller. The Recovery menu appears.

    • 6

Select ̶0;Restore File System̶1; from the Recovery menu. Follow the onscreen instructions to check and restore corrupt and missing files on your system.
