Types
All dynamic themes are based off the source that inspired the theme's design. A popular dynamic theme from the PS3 game, "Heavy Rain," showcases the game's lighting and rain effects taking place during a thunderstorm. One of the many "Sonic the Hedgehog" dynamic themes features Sonic running through various environments from the game. Other dynamic themes respond to user inputs in subtle ways while navigating the PS3 menu.
Installation
All dynamic themes must be installed to the PS3's hard drive or storage device before they can be applied to the background. All themes downloaded from the PlayStation Store are automatically placed in the Theme sub-menu located under the Settings icon on the main menu. Dynamic themes can also be installed via USB flash drives or memory cards on older PS3 models.
Pricing
Dynamic themes vary in pricing. The price for all themes are displayed next to the Buy/Download button on the PlayStation Store. Some games include free themes when pre-ordering or in their limited edition versions. Sony regularly puts older dynamic themes on sale or bundled with map packs and other goodies.
User-Created Dynamic Themes
Shortly after dynamic themes became available for the PS3, many modders began creating editors that allow you to create and use your own dynamic themes. Creating your own dynamic themes requires some animation/3D modeling knowledge, although many tutorials are available online to get you started. User-created themes use the official PS3 firmware and do not violate the terms of service.
