How to Enter the Service Menu for PS3 With No Sony Controller

If you do not have a Sony controller for your PS3 and need to access the service menu, you can use any third-party controller that has a PS button and connects using USB. The service menu uses the USB connection instead of the wireless Bluetooth connection. Since some games require the PS button to access the menu, most third-party controllers have one though it may be called something else.

Instructions

  Turn off the PS3.

  Press the "Power" button and hold it down until the PS3 powers on, then off.

  Wait approximately two to three seconds and press the "Power" button again. The system will beep once. After a few seconds, it will beep two times in quick succession.

  Release the power button when you hear the second of the two beeps.
- 5
  Connect your third-party controller via USB and press the equivalent of the "PS" button.
