The PlayStation Network can connect you to fellow gamers around the world over your router, via a wireless signal or an Ethernet connection. Once you connect the console to the Internet and create an account username and password, you immediately gain access to the network and can participate in online gaming and chat with others. To find your friends, however, you will need to access their names through the XMB (Xross Media Bar).
