How to Get a PS3 Discovered on a Laptop

Using the PlayStation 3 game console's wireless abilities, users can access and share content on the device through a Windows PC or laptop using the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA). The PS3 supports a wide range of movie and video, photo and music files. To access these over a DLNA, you must first set up your network and find the PS3's wireless signal.

  1. PS3 Settings

    • 1

      Scroll over to "Settings" on the PS3's XMB home menu, scroll down to "Network Settings" and press "X."

      Highlight "Media Server Connection" and press "X."

      Select "enable," then press "X" to turn it on.

    Laptop Settings

      Open Windows Media Player 12, then click "Library."

      Click "Stream" to launch a pop-up window, then click "Turn on media streaming with (the name of your wireless network)."

      Click "Show devices on" to launch a drop-down list. The PS3 will be listed as "Unknown Device."

      Highlight "Unknown Device" and click "Allowed" on the drop-down down menu. Press "OK" to save the settings.
