How to Make a Mad Catz Controller Work With the New PS3 Firmware

Third-party Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) controllers are available from many manufacturers. Many PS3 owners purchase these controllers instead of Sony-branded controllers because they are less-expensive. Mad Catz has a plethora of PS3 controllers that easily sync wirelessly with the Sony PS3 using an USB receiver. These controllers work even with newer Sony PS3 firmware versions.

Instructions

  Open the battery compartment on the back of the Mad Catz controller. Insert two AA batteries.

  Plug the Mad Catz USB receiver dongle into one of the Sony PS3's available USB ports. Turn on the Sony PS3.

  Slide the "ON/OFF" switch to the "ON" position. The LED lights on the bottom of the Mad Catz controller begin to light up. The blinking lights will stop and stay solid when the Mad Catz controller finds the USB receiver's signal. The Mad Catz controller is now connected to the Sony PS3.
