The PlayStation 3 makes use of a hard drive system to store various game, system and media files. It also saves backup files on the hard drive in case of system malfunction. These files use up storage space on the hard drive. You can reduce the amount of space devoted to backing up the system by periodically deleting the backup files. This will free up hard drive space for other storage uses.
