How to Get a Webcam Recognized on a PS3

As a media and gaming console, the Sony PlayStation 3 has numerous features that allow for seamless transmission between computers and the console, including the usage of USB ports. With these ports, you can connect any USB webcam, such as the official Sony PlayStation Eye camera, required to use the PlayStation Move controller in any supported game. The process to getting a USB webcam to work is the same as connecting the PlayStation Eye.

  Locate a PlayStation 3 USB port. There are two on the front side of the console; these are the same plugs where you would connect your controller or other peripherals.

  Insert the USB webcam into the USB port. Each camera has its own way of telling you it has connected, usually by turning on a light. The PlayStation Eye in particular displays a solid blue light when connected.

  Turn on the application or game you wish to use. Not all games or applications support the use of a webcam, but those that do will readily recognize the camera when you load it.
