How to Boost Your PS3 WiFi

The benefit of using WiFi instead of an Ethernet cable to connect your PS3 to the Internet is that it̵7;s less obtrusive. There are no cables to trip over. On the flip side, the disadvantages are that the WiFi radio signal broadcast by your router has a limited range and the signal can be disrupted. Improving the quality of your PS3̵7;s WiFi Internet connection allows you to play games online with less lag. There are several options at your disposal to boost the strength of your WiFi signal to your PS3.

Instructions

    • 1

Move your wireless router closer to the PS3, or the PS3 closer to the wireless router (if feasible.) This is the simplest, most effective solution. Your router is the device that is broadcasting your network WiFi signal. Therefore, the closer your PS3 is to your router, the stronger the WiFi signal will be. Positioning the PS3 to be in the direct line of sight of the router is the optimum place arrangement.

    • 2

Stand the PS3 up on its left side. The PS3̵7;s built-in WiFi antenna is located on the right side of the device. Standing the PS3 up makes its antenna more accessible to a signal.

    • 3

Minimize the number of obstacles between your wireless router and the PS3 console. This will minimize the possibility of the router̵7;s signal getting obstructed before it reaches the PS3. Sitting the router on a high surface, above many of the objects in the room, is one way to accomplish this task.

Hook up a WiFi extender. A WiFi extender is an electronic device designed to boost the range of a wireless network signal. You can purchase a new WiFi extender for as little as $50, but the price range varies depending upon the quality and brand of the product.

Tear off a large sheet of aluminum foil. Cut it into the shape of an isosceles triangle. Cut two small holes within the body of triangle. One hole near the top of the triangle, where the angle is unique. And another hole beneath the first, near the base of the triangle. Plug the router̵7;s antenna into the base hole and push the foil down the pole a little. Curve the foil enough to allow the antenna to plug into the top hole of the foil.
