How to Get a Disc That Is Stuck Upside Down Out of a PS3

The PlayStation 3 console allows users to play video games and Blu-ray discs. As with many disc-based technologies, both video game and Blu-ray discs can stop working because of scratches, dirt or corrupted information on the disc. These errors may cause the entire console to freeze, which in turn stops the PS3 from ejecting the disc. Original PS3s come with a "force eject" feature, while PS3 Slim models allow you to override the console ejection mechanism and manually eject the disc.

Instructions

  1. Original PS3

    • 1

Turn the PS3 on if it is off.

    • 2

Press and hold the "Eject" button for 10 seconds. This triggers the "force eject" mechanism that frees the disc.

    • 3

Restart the PS3 before playing any more games or video discs.

    PS3 Slim

    • 4

Unplug the audio, video and power cords from the PS3.

    • 5

Turn the console upside down and find the small compartment on the bottom of the console that houses the manual eject mechanism.

    • 6

Pull and lift the tab on the compartment door to access the compartment.

    • 7

Place a Phillips-head screwdriver into the small hole in the compartment. Turn the screwdriver counterclockwise. The disc will emerge a bit more with each turn. Keep turning the screwdriver until the disc fully emerges.

    • 8

Put the compartment door on and reconnect the cords.
