Download the PS3 dualshock 3 sixaxis windows 7 driver from the MotionInJoy website. Save the RAR file to the Desktop. Right-click the RAR file and click "Extract/Extract to Here."
Connect the Sixaxis to the PC using the supplied USB cable. The default drivers will install -- but these will not work. Click the "Start" button in the Windows taskbar. Type "Device Manager" into the "Search Programs and Files" bar and click the "Device Manager" icon.
Click the + symbol next to "USB Interface Devices." Double-click "USB Input Device" and click the "Details" tab. Click the drop-down menu under Property and click "Harware IDs." Verify the numbers displayed under the Values section are listed as 0100 and 0286, which identifies the Sixaxis controller. If you have multiple USB devices connected, you may need to go through each USB Input Device until you find the correct one.
Click the "Driver" tab. Click "Update Driver." Click "Browse my computer for driver software." Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer." Click "Have Disk" and select the extracted driver on the Desktop. Click "Next" to ignore the warning.
Click "MotioninJoy Virtual Xinput device for Windows" and click the "Next" button. Click "Install this driver software anyway." The Sixaxis will work as a USB controller when you turn it on by pressing the "PS" button.
