Keys
In "Assassin's Creed 2," keys are an item that can be looted from dummies at a few different points of the game. Although you can obtain the keys, and the game will display a message saying you have picked up keys, there is no use for the keys in the world of "Assassin's Creed 2." After the keys are picked up, they do not appear in the player's inventory. Players of "Assassin's Creed 2" have speculated that the keys correspond to side quests within the game that were eliminated during game development, but the keys themselves were never deleted from the game.
Knowledge is Power
"Knowledge is Power" is the first mission in sequence nine, titled "Carnevale," of "Assassin's Creed 2." This is one of the areas where a set of keys can be looted from a dummy. The player begins this mission at Leonardo da Vinci's workshop and receives a pistol to use as a weapon. The rest of the mission is a training session where the player practices using the gun on training dummies. When the training is finished, loot any of the dummies remaining on the ledge at Leonardo's workshop to find keys. You cannot loot a dummy that is shot, as it will disappear shortly after.
Hunting the Hunter
A set of keys can also be found during the side quest titled "Hunting the Hunter," which is the last of the assassination side missions. To unlock this mission, you have to save Lorenzo de Medici during the "Wolves in Sheep's Clothing" mission in Sequence 4, as well as unlock the Venice region, where "Hunting the Hunter" takes place. After accepting the contract, you must kill a guard holding a map to a meeting place, which directs you toward the fountain in Venice. Approach the person standing by the fountain, who turns out to be a dummy, and fight off the ambush that appears. Loot the dummy after defeating the enemies to find the other set of keys.
Other Side Quests
Most of the side quests available in "Assassin's Creed 2" are the assassin contracts available through Lorenzo de Medici, but there are other extra missions a player can engage in. Different side quests include "beat up" events, where a player must beat up one person, often a cheating husband, for a civilian. These events exist in Florence, Forli, Tuscany and Venice. There are also five courier missions, which require the player to deliver a package or message, and six race missions where the player is challenged to a race by a computer-controlled character.
