How to Block a PS3 Router Update

One way to block updates to your PlayStation 3 is by using your Internet router to block specific ports. This will allow you to keep access to PS3 functions that you have now, but were taken away with the latest release. If you purchase newer games and run them on your PS3, you present yourself with the risk of updating the firmware on your PS3 anyway. Sony has started adding updates to the newer games to make sure that all PS3 systems are updated to the firmware they want you to use.

     Login to the Internet router following the instructions supplied by the router manufacturer.

     Navigate to the port filtering tab from within the router.

     Block TCP ports 80, 443 and 5223. Block UDP ports 3478 and 3479. Save the settings.
