How to Backup a PS3 Game to a Blu-ray

While most users who back up their Sony PS3 games do so directly to a hard drive and play them from there, there's another way. If you have a Blu-ray burner, you can burn the games directly to a blank Blu-ray disc. Then you can insert the disc into your PS3, select your PS3 game manager and play it directly from the Blu-ray disc.

Things You'll Need

  • Blank Blu-ray disc
  • Blu-ray burner
  • External hard drive

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the PS3 game into your PS3's Blu-ray drive. Connect an external hard drive to the PS3.

    • 2

Select the backup manager on the Sony PS3, and press the "Circle" button on the PS3 controller. Select the "External Hard Drive" as the backup location. The PS3 game is backed up to the external hard drive.

    • 3

Turn off the PS3, and unplug the external hard drive from the console. Plug the external hard drive into your computer's USB port. Click "Open folder to view files" from the "Autorun" window, to view the PS3 game files on the external hard drive.

    • 4

Insert a blank Blu-ray disc into your computer's Blu-ray burner.

    • 5

Open the "Gamez" folder on the external hard drive. You see a folder named "BlusXXXX" -- with different numbers in place of the "X"s, which vary by game.

    • 6

Click the "BlusXXXX" folder, and click "Burn" at the top of the Windows Explorer window. A dialog window comes up. Type in the name of the PS3 game, to name the blank Blu-ray disc backup copy. The files are burned to the disc.

    • 7

Right-click the Blu-ray drive icon in your Windows Explorer window, and click "Close Session" to complete the burning procedure.
