Downloading the Encryption Key Using the PS3
Turn on the PS3, or close all games and applications to return to the home screen.
Navigate to the Settings menu using the left joystick, or the directional buttons on the controller.
Scroll up to the first option in the Settings menu, ̶0;System Update,̶1; and press the ̶0;X̶1; button twice to choose ̶0;Update via internet connection̶1; to update the firmware.
Downloading the Encryption Key Using a USB Drive
Connect the USB drive to your computer through a USB port. If the drive does not automatically open, navigate to My Computer and double-click your drive̵7;s designated letter to open it.
Right-click in the open drive folder to bring up the secondary menu. Scroll down to ̶0;New̶1; and click ̶0;Folder̶1; to create a new folder. Name this folder ̶0;PS3.̶1;
Create a new folder in the ̶0;PS3̶1; folder by repeating step 2, and name this folder ̶0;Update.̶1; Download the PS3 update file from the Playstation website̵7;s ̶0;System Software Updates̶1; page, and place it in the ̶0;Update̶1; folder.
Disconnect the USB drive from the computer and plug it into the PS3 USB port. Refer to step 2 under ̶0;Downloading the Encryption Key Using the PS3̶1; to navigate to the ̶0;System Update̶1; menu, and select the ̶0;Update via storage media̶1; option by highlighting it and pressing ̶0;X.̶1; After the file transfer, the PS3 will reboot automatically.
Press the ̶0;PS̶1; button after the reboot to confirm your firmware selection. Press the ̶0;X̶1; button to accept the user agreement, and once more to confirm the installation. After the installation, the PS3 will reboot with the latest firmware and Blu-ray encryption key.
